Pimero questionsCategory: Security & backupReset Pimero Server

If there are serious problems with the synchronization of the Pimero databases, it may be useful to set up the entire Pimero network again and then import the old data. The reconfiguration will invalidate all existing connections, so each client will have to be reconfigured as well.

Important: The pure new installation of Pimero usually does not bring any improvement. You have to reinstall all databases as described here.

First the existing databases of the Pimero Server PC and all Pimero Clients or of the Pimero standalone installation must be backed up.

First switch to the Windows service management at the server PC or at the single-user PC. This can be found under “Start” -> “Settings” -> “Control Panel” -> “Administration” -> “Services”. There is an entry “PimeroService”. Please stop this service.

Now locate the data directory of the Pimero server PC or the server directory of the Pimero single-user installation.

Windows Vista or newer

C:\ProgramData\soft-evolution\Pimero\

Please note that the directory C:\ProgramData is hidden by Windows by default. You can change this in Windows Explorer in the menu “Organize” -> “Folder options”. In the View tab, check the box “Show hidden files and folders”.

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Program Files\soft-evolution\Pimero\

Please note that the directory C:\Documents and Settings\ is hidden by Windows by default. You can change this in Windows Explorer in the “Folder Options” menu. In the View tab, check the box “Show hidden files and folders”.

From the data directory, copy the subdirectory that contains the version number of your current Pimero installation. Usually this is the highest version you can find here. Examples for such subdirectories are “9.2” for Pimero 2014 R2 or “8.2” for Pimero 2013 R2. Store the copy in a separate location. Please make sure that the directory contains a PIMEROSERVER.FDB file larger than 4 MB. Otherwise it is an empty installation.

Repeat the same procedure for all Pimero client installations or for the client data of the Pimero single-user installation. It is important that you collect all the data directories so that you copy the data that has not been synchronized to the server.

Windows Vista or newer

C:\Users\WINDOWS_USER\AppData\Roaming\soft-evolution\Pimero

Please note that the directory C:\Users\WINDOWS_USER\AppData is hidden by Windows by default. You can change this in Windows Explorer in the menu “Organize” -> “Folder Options”. In the View tab, check the box “Show hidden files and folders”.

Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\WINDOWS_USER\Program Files\soft-evolution\Pimero\

Please note that the directory C:\Documents and Settings is hidden by Windows by default. You can change this in Windows Explorer in the “Folder Options” menu. In the View tab, check the box “Show hidden files and folders”.

When you have saved all the data directories, you can start the configuration wizard on the Pimero Server PC or on the standalone PC. To do this, call the Configuration Wizard from the Start menu / Pimero / Configuration Wizard. Now set up a new Pimero server. In the

  • 2. step of the wizard “Multiple computers” and in the
  • 3. Step “Server – All other Pimeros will connect to this PC”.
  • In the 4th step you can choose a new administrator password or continue using your old password.
  • In step 6, please select “Complete this wizard”. No new user should be created here.

After the server configuration has been completed, you can now start the ServerAdmin and import all previously backed up database files one after the other. The procedure is described in Importing a Database in the Client / Server section.

Once all the data has been imported, you can reconfigure all the Clients one by one. To do this, restart the configuration wizard manually at the work stations.
